O Campeonato Mato-grossense 2020 começou no dia 21 de janeiro.
Com três jogos sendo disputados, União x Mixto (Luthero Lopes), Luverdense x Dom Bosco (Passo das Emas) e Operário-VG x Poconé (Dito Souza). Outros dois jogos completam a rodada na quarta-feira (22), Cuiabá x Nova Mutum e Sinop x Araguaia.
Com pouco mais de três meses de duração, a primeira fase do Mato-grossense vai até dia 15 de março. Pelo regulamento, os times se enfrentam todos contra todos em turno único, com os mandos de campo definidos no arbitral. Os oito primeiros times avançam às quartas de final. Os dois piores serão rebaixados.
Os finalistas garantem vagas na Copa do Brasil e Copa Verde de 2021. A princípio, os dois times que chegarem mais à frente, exceto o Cuiabá que está na Série B, garantem vagas na Série D de 2021.
